Dermal Fillers in Capitol Hill, Washington DC
Dermal fillers can smooth, define, and enhance elements of your face. They provide volume, plus they stimulate the production of collagen. Filler is very popular for lips and cheeks. With this treatment, carefully selected fillers are injected into the lips to make them fuller and plumper.
Whether you want a little more volume, increased hydration, or more definition, we work with you to create the perfect treatment for your needs. You and your provider will decide which filler is best for you based on your goals.
What Are Dermal Fillers?
“Fillers” are most commonly made up of hyaluronic acid (HA) which naturally occurs in our bodies. The injectable compound has been modified to last longer than the short lifespan of our natural hyaluronic acid, but still gets broken down slowly over time.
What Can Dermal Fillers Do?
Simply put, fillers add volume. They can be added to the superficial skin to soften facial creases and wrinkles. They can be added deeper to replace bone loss. In the hands of a skilled injector, filler can improve under eye hollowness, contour the cheeks, and craft a jaw line. Fillers are most known for creating lip volume.
How Long Do Fillers Last?
It depends on the type of filler and location and depth it is placed. Fillers last the longest when they are denser and deeper in low movement areas (1-2 years). Whereas thin filler placed in the lips lasts the shortest amount of time (6-9 months). People with higher metabolic rates may notice their filler dissolves faster than average. Your injector can estimate the longevity of your treatment plan.
What If I Don’t Like My Filler?
If you don’t like the results of your filler treatment, or you find that your filler has migrated over time, you might choose to dissolve your fillers. HA fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, effectively reversing your results. If your filler is not made of Hyaluronic Acid (such as Sculptra or Radiesse) then it cannot be removed easily.
How Much Filler Is Needed?
Filler is sold by the syringe. The amount you need will depend on your goals and your anatomy. Commonly, one syringe of filler is added to the lips, whereas full facial rejuvenations can use 3-6 syringes. Multiple treatments may be required to achieve your desired results.
What Are the Risks of Getting Filler?
Vascular occlusions are rare but concerning risks of improperly placed filler. If filler is injected into arteries or veins it can prevent blood from flowing normally to your skin or nerves.
