Botox Before Filler or Vice Versa? Why Injection Sequence Changes Your Results
When combined, Botox and dermal filler can create amazing results. And because they’re both injectable treatments, order doesn’t really matter, right? Not quite!
Botox and filler work in completely different ways. Deciding which treatment comes first is part of creating a balanced result.
So should you get Botox before filler or vice versa? Here’s what you need to know about injection sequence.
Botox Before Filler or Vice Versa? Why Order Matters
Botox manages the movement of facial muscles to soften the appearance of frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. On the other hand, dermal fillers add volume and enhances facial contours.
This difference matters because relaxing a muscle can change the way the surrounding skin and facial features look. Your injector may want to see how those muscles respond before deciding where and how much filler is needed.
When Botox Should Come First
If dynamic muscle movement is a major contributor to your concerns, Botox may make sense as the first step in your treatment plan.
For example, if strong muscle activity is creating pronounced lines on your face, relaxing those muscles will soften the overall appearance of those wrinkles, which can impact how much filler is needed.
From a practical standpoint, sequence is also important because your face shouldn’t be treated in isolated sections. Changing movement in one area can affect how nearby features appear.
When Filler Should Come First
If volume loss, contouring, or facial structure is the main issue, filler should likely be the priority.
Maybe your cheeks have lost fullness or your lips could use a little more definition. In this instances, restoring structure can change your facial proportions, which can affect your Botox plan.
Sometimes the problem you thought needed Botox is partly a balance issue. Addressing the underlying volume can make a bigger difference than simply freezing a muscle.
